Manipal Institute introduces MPhil degree & Short term courses in Regenerative Medicine

Manipal Institute of Regenerative Medicine, an initiative of Manipal University, today announced the introduction of a new course- MPhil in Regenerative Medicine from the year 2011.

MIRM also announced the introduction of new Short Term Certificate Courses in Regenerative Medicine which includes ten day course, weekend courses for professionals and one month certificate course.
The two day weekend course will focus on subjects like isolation, characterization and expansion of stem cells. Apart from these, overview of flowcytometry and magnetic sorting techniques used in stem cells will also be given in these short term courses. The focus will be on both, human embryonic stem cells and human mesenchymal stem cells. The registration process for the short term courses will begin from 01 October 2010. The classes are likely to start from December, 2010
Subjects as part of the ten day course would include
• Flowcytometry & molecular biology techniques in regenerative medicine
• Human MSCs culture & cell analysis techniques
• Techniques on stem cell research & regenerative medicine
• Clinical applications of stem cells
Classes for these ten day course are scheduled to start from December 2010.
The one month certificate programme will certify students/ professionals in human embryonic stem cells and human mesenchymal stem cells. Students with bachelors/masters degree in life sciences, MBBS/MD/BDS/MDS/BE biotechnology and other allied sciences can send in their applications for the course

The field of stem cell biology is a rapidly emerging field all over the world and lot of opportunities are present in premier institutions in India and abroad for pursuing Ph.D. MIRM is the only institute in India dedicated to pursue education as well as research in the field of regenerative medicine and stem cell biology. Regenerative medicine (RM) is an evolving speciality in medicine and certificate courses such as those we have introduced will help train scientists of stem cell biology to work in coordination with the clinical doctors. ”

MIRM has been offering MSc in regenerative medicine. A total of 40 students have been undergoing the course. The institute has tied up with organisations abroad to place their students for further studies in foreign universities like Europe, Japan, Germany and Belgium. MIRM is equipped with state of art facility such as custom-built bio safety culture rooms, sophisticated instruments like FACS, real time PCR and fluorescence microscopes; a fully-equipped class room and Wi-Fi enabled campus.
