FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Diego, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 12, 2012 -- Alexander Salazar Fine Art is not just dedicated to holding beautiful exhibits with varying Art from around the world; The galleries are also there to inform and educate so that others may learn and take from it what they wish. The idea of improving and building upon the art scene in San Diego is emphasised from the sense of community Alexander Salazar Fine Art provides. Despite opening an additional Gallery in the heart of La Jolla, attention is still paid to the galleries in Downtown San Diego.

Art patrons, art lovers, friends and those alike are cordially invited to join Manuelita Brown as she gives an in-depth lecture about her experiences as a Master Sculptor. Brown is an African American sculptor. Her most recent work, Triton, at the University of California, San Diego, depicts the school's mascot.

Brown's experience, beginning in 1961, through the 1990s; Fine Art - Sculpture with Bruno Lucchesi, Scottsdale Artists, Nigel Konstam, Verrocchio Art Centre, Casole d'Elsa, Tuscany, Italy, study and internship at Fire Arts Foundry, Layne Campbell, also earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Oregon State University in 1962, a teaching credential in secondary-level mathematics in 1966, and a M.S. in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego in 1976.

Sculpting in her own studio, she has created many portraits of noted African Americans, and countless multi-cultural style sculptures in abstract, figurative realism and designs for monumental bronzes that she personally works through clay on armatures to the lost wax process. She retired from teaching in 2000 to pursue sculpting full-time

"My work has been described as eclectic and authentically personal, incorporating subtle political statement in expressive, graceful, elegant form. It is figurative, yet often with an abstract basis. Through three decades as wife, mother, and teacher (mathematics, not art) I believe that I have developed a sensitivity to universal human experiences, although my perspective as an African-American woman is often evident. If the viewer remarks, “that’s me—I feel just like that” or “I remember that—I’ve been there” or “I know her” then I have achieved a major goal. I particularly enjoy portrait sculpture—in the faces of people, I see the wonder, the promise, and the majesty of creation. While my goal is to contribute to American public sculpture works that edify human beings and the human spirit, I also want the viewer of my work to respect the strength, the character, and the beauty of my people--the descendants of African survivors in the Americas."

This will be an opportunity for visitors to ask questions, learn and absorb just one aspect of the wonderful world of Art!

The lecture will take place at Alexander Salazar Fine Art in Downtown (location below) on January 19th at 7pm till 9pm. This will then be followed up with a wine reception on January 21st in the same location.

Salazar says 'I sincerely hope art lovers come along, relax and enjoy a wonderful lecture from a talented artist.' You can RSVP to the email address below.
