As one of our most anticipated events of the month, our string quartet and 9-piece string ensemble looked forward to playing for more than 1,500 guests in Manila Hotel's Millenium Hall for Manulife's Performer's Night & Annual Business Review.
We arrived at the venue at 4pm and hurried to set up the string quartet to rehearse with the MBPS Chorale for surprise numbers later on. We then did our sound check and equipment set-up with the aid of the very helpful staff of El Kapitan Pro-Sounds & Lights.
At, 5pm, our string quartet moved to the Fiesta Pavillion to get ready to play for the cocktails right after the ribbon cutting of the event. This started at 6pm and we started playing Bach's Concerto for Two Violins which we then steadily transitioned into Bacharach's The Look Of Love.
Rather quickly, dinner started at about 6.30pm and we moved into the dining area and set up for our 9-piece orchestra performance. Dinner started with our own arrangement of Moon River followed by a series of classic film music like South Pacific and The Sound Of Music.
Just as we were getting warmed up, the program begun and we were back down to a string quartet to accompany the MBPS Chorale for their surprise performances that not only surprised but also enchanted the audience - the performances included Jubilate Deo and Phantom Of The Opera's Think Of Me and All I Ask of You (which also included a performance from the acclaimed Halili-Cruz School Of Ballet).
We expected it to be a long event - but the entertainment just kept on coming! And with everything that's really good, there's always an end. Acknowledgements were given at around 10pm and, with everyone's adrenaline pumping, the event came to a close.
This is one of those events you just do not want to forget, and many thanks to Andy Samaniego, who provided two of the photos in this blog (the good ones - the bad ones were taken by myself). For events that matter, of course, you'll want the best quality photos.
It definitely wasn't easy to put together, but, kudos to Regine Muscat of Manulife and Carlo Carpio of Inno Specs, it went surprisingly well - and it seemed as if everyone, from the employees up to the corporate executives, enjoyed themselves.
Even if just once a year, these hard-working folks deserve to delight themselves in good food, soothing music and fun company.
