Marina Company Offers Boaters Safe Refuge from Gulf of Mexico Oil Slick

May 25, 2010

Local marina company offers refuge for boat owners affected by the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 25, 2010 -- Crystal River, FL—(May 24, 2010)— A Florida-based marina company is offering refuge to boat owners concerned the big Gulf of Mexico oil spill could harm their prized possessions—especially now as oil starts washing ashore in some areas. Twin Rivers Marina, a dry stack marina located a few miles from the inlet in Crystal River, Florida, has agreed to waive its long-term lease commitments for storage while the oil slick remains a threat to the Gulf shore.

“We are willing to store boats for as long as needed to assist in this crisis,” said Twin Rivers General Manager Robert Zweig.

Twin Rivers is the closest marina to Florida’s Panhandle with a heavy-duty travel lift that can haul boats out of the water and onto dry land. The 35-ton lift is capable of handling craft up to 70,000 pounds or approximately 60 feet in length.

For any boats that have already been damaged by the oil, the marina has a special-permitted contaminated spill clean up area to fix damaged engines and hulls. If oil gets into the boat’s system it can do some serious damage to the engines and permanently scar the hull.

If boaters wish to leave the west coast altogether, Aqua Marine Partners have facilities on the east coast of Florida as well where vessels can be stored without long-term lease commitments from Aventura to Daytona Beach.

“As oil starts making its way on shore in Louisiana, many folks in neighboring states who have their boats docked in the water want to play it safe and get their vessels on dry land,” said Andrew Sturner, CEO of Aquamarine Partners, the management company for Twin Rivers as well as seven other marinas.
