Martin Machacek paints architecture with a twist, using acrylics on canvas and hand-shaped wood. In a style he calls "architectural etherealism," his buildings are liberated from static reality. They are distorted, playful, and unexpected – a departure from everyday life so radical that it enables viewers to see architecture from a new perspective. All of the artist’s work exhibits high craftsmanship; he pays attention to every detail. "My creativity springs from the process of giving inanimate structures their own unique personalities," he writes. Walls bend and structures dance as he seeks to improve people's awareness of the aesthetic nature of the architectural landscape around them. He is continually inspired by the weathered barns of the prairies of Alberta, and the resulting artworks are a colorful testament to the beauty of movement and line.
Martin Machacek was born and raised in Prague, but emigrated to Alberta, Canada in 1979. His work has been featured in many venues and publications.
