FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Jersey, New Jersey, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) October 12, 2010 -- WAYNE, NJ-- Mayor Vergano has announced that the month of October be declared “DRUG AWARENESS MONTH”.

On October 5, 2010 Robbin Gulino, Coordinator for the Wayne Alliance, read a proclamation at the township council meeting. Throughout October, there will be several awareness programs that will take place at the local High Schools and other places in the community. The awareness programs are those that focus on the side effects of drugs and alcohol and what those substances can do to ones body.

Wayne Valley and Hills High School, of Wayne NJ, hosted assemblies on October 6 & 7, 2010. The assemblies, sponsored by the Wayne Parents Care Committee Chaired by Alliance member, Susan Senowitz was delivered by an American Athletic Institute speaker and former pro-athlete, Dennis O'Sullivan. AAI believes that athletes and alcohol have a long and connected relationship. John Underwood, President and Founder of the American Athletic Institute, believes that student athletes are at the highest risk of developing drug and alcohol habits.

The presentation showed how drugs, energy drinks and alcohol could severally damage every part of your body. O’Sullivan emphasized the fact that these harmful substances hurt younger people much more then they do older people. The former Pro also showed how an athlete could suffer from the effects of these drugs. He showed how an athlete can be much slower, less focused, dehydrated and could actually not ever be performing at their full potential. Throughout O'Sullivan’ presentation he showed many facts and scientific evidence that supported his statements.

Wayne Parents Care (a sub-committee of the Wayne Alliance) goals are to educate, provide skills and empower parents to be part of the ATOD (alcohol, tobacco and other drugs) prevention solution. The WPC believes that if they can get the message through to the parents then the message will work its way down to their children.

Wayne Valley High School will also be hosting an awareness program on October 20, 2010. The program is called The Reality Tour-a-provocative portrayal of the life of an addict is sponsored by the Wayne Alliance and coordinated by member Donna Scillieri.
