(Free-Press-Release.com) November 23, 2009 -- AUSTIN, TEXAS USA – Global medical device regulatory consulting firm Emergo Group Inc. recently surveyed medical device and IVD manufacturers, distributors and industry service providers about the current state of their company, international expansion plans and their general outlook for 2010.

This is the second year of the survey which was conducted November 1-15, 2009 and emailed to more than 13,000 industry professionals. More than 1,100 people completed the survey. The results show that despite ongoing uncertainty about the global economy, the medical device industry is performing well and remains bullish about the sales potential for their products going into 2010.

Key findings:

>Nearly 32% of manufacturers indicated that DOMESTIC sales/orders have increased during the previous 3 months, while 20% have seen a decline. About 37% said INTERNATIONAL sales/orders have increased during the same period, while less than 17% noted a decline.

>Nearly 72% of industry professionals expect their company’s sales to increase in 2010. Only 4% expect sales to decrease. Despite the general optimism about 2010 sales prospects, just 51% expect their company to add more employees next year while 44% expect to have the same number or fewer employees.

>Manufacturers were asked which international markets they plan to enter for the first time in 2010. Top choices: Brazil (29%), China (24%), Europe (23%), India (20%).

>More than 70% of respondents were “very positive” or “somewhat positive” about prospects for the medical device/IVD industry in 2010.
