Meet the Eight Up-and-Coming Rockstars of Punky Pets this July

Pasadena, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) June 14, 2011 -- Pasadena, CA -- The Punky Pets are eight animated, ethnically diverse rockstars created by Paula and Charles Unger. Expanding from their initial book, clothing, and toy line, the Ungers have created a short film that features the Punky Pets at an international music competition. The film will be screened at the seventh annual Action on Film Festival July 22-30 in Pasadena, California.

The eight characters that comprise the Punky Pets have dreams of becoming huge rock stars. In the short film "Punky Pets International Icon," each Punky Pet takes the stage at a Battle of the Bands competition and struggles to impress the judges with his/her musical abilities. In just its six minute running time, the film captures the Punky Pets as they jam out to nine rocking songs.

The Punky Pets, however, are no stranger to success. Joining Vans for the 2011 Warped Tour, the Ungers will be taking the Punky Pets on tour around the states with bands NEOGEO, 3OH!3, Gym Class Heroes, Shut Up & Deal, and Paramore, just to name a few. In addition, the plush toys will be in attendance at the renowned comic book convention, Comic-Con, this July.

"What we really wanted to do when we started this project was promote peace through music and unity," says filmmaker Charles Unger. "The Punky Pets are all about celebrating and embracing differences."

The Punky Pets were originally conceived through a book written by Paula Unger. As a designer in Los Angeles, Paula began designing the plush toys and t-shirts that are quickly coming to the forefront of pop culture. With talk of joining Hot Topic in distribution, the Punky Pet characters have come a long way since their original appearance in a storybook.

"The film was created by combining our passions and blending our talents to create something fresh, new, and positive," says Charles Unger. With the way the Punky Pets have easily transcended markets, the Ungers' hope of a television series will seem to propose no problem to the dynamic duo.

"Punky Pets International Icon" will screen at the seventh annual Action on Film Festival in Pasadena, California July 22-30. Featuring screenings, dinners, an award show, and a renowned red carpet event, the festival and celebration will attract thousands of talented filmmakers, celebrities, and fans alike.
