MEMPHIS, Tennessee (November 1, 2010) – The Memphis TEA Party announced today that it will be the host organization of the National Tea Party Convention which will be held in Memphis, Tennessee from April 7~9, 2011. The event will focus on the theme of Liberty Through Accountability with speakers and breakout sessions looking at holding our legislators accountable to the key tenets of the Tea Party movement.
Mark A. Skoda, Chairman of The Memphis TEA Party and host of the Mark Skoda radio show, stated, “With the historic change in control in the House and a strong showing in the Senate, this convention will work to keep the pressure on our legislators as they take their seats in Congress. Our liberty is assured when we hold those legislators accountable!”
Checkpoint 100 will call for attention to the first 100 days of Congress and the actions taken during those early days of the new leadership. The delegates, speakers and breakouts will allow for a broader discussion of issues facing the nation, the forthcoming presidential elections and the necessary actions of the Tea Party movement and other patriot groups during this political season.
Skoda further commented, "The timing of this convention was purposeful in establishing a checkpoint for the first one hundred days of the new Congress. The tea party played a pivotal role during this election cycle and we felt it important to assess those first one hundred days in context of the newly elected Congress and their representations during the campaign."
Mark White, Tennessee State Representative of District 83, will serve as chairman of the National Tea Party Convention along with a diverse advisory board made up of Tea Party leaders and political activists. The non-profit event is planned to be held in Memphis for the next two years in April 2011 and April 2012, allowing activists from around the country to plan their schedules well into the 2012 presidential election cycle.
Mark White stated, "I have been actively engaged with the tea party movement beginning with my win during a special election last year. I am also a small businessman who understands the importance of this political activism and the need to hold legislators accountable to their constituents. I look forward to chairing this event and providing guidance and support as our planning continues. Memphis has much to offer and we look forward to showing the best of our city to patriots from around the country."
The National Tea Party Convention is a chance for networking, training and great speakers to be heard by delegates from around the country. The convention will be held in downtown Memphis and is working with key convention organizations to include the Memphis Marriott Downtown, Nolan Production Group and Destination King, Inc. The approach will allow for a first class event while ensuring delegates have a great experience while visiting Memphis.
