Men to Men Forum: Synergize!
Students at the Young Men’s Preparatory Academy prefer men only audiences so that they may talk candidly with male guests.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 25, 2010 --
Miami, FL (March, 2010) The Young Men’s Preparatory Academy‘s foundation is built on Seven Covey’s “Seven Habits of Effective People”. Mr. Leonard Ruan, Principal, welcomed this year’s second annual Men to Men Forum which will be held on March 26, 8:30-11:30 am. Its theme is “Synergize!” The speakers will discuss how this habit can be applied to the students’ daily lives, emphasizing choosing the right team, surrounding yourself with positive influences and how the use of diversity and open-mindedness can be used to reach their goals.
Last year’s conference, “Planning for Success”, resulted in female teachers and the organizer, Priscilla Dames being asked to leave the rooms. This enabled the students, ages 14-17 to ask sensitive questions and have a candid discussion with their male speakers. The organizer, CEO of Wingspan Seminars, was surprised but delighted. “This meant the students felt very comfortable with their guests and the bonding was evidenced during the closing wrap up session when the boys were chanting after one of the speakers. The men did an excellent job and I applaud each of them.” Too, the all male forum provides an opportunity for some of the boys to have a male to talk to that may not have that figure in his own home. This is why this same group was invited back. The speakers, members of the Miami-Dade Black Affairs Advisory Board, are Ronald Mumford, Edgar Wright, Rev. Gregory Gay and Steven Hunter Johnson.
Wingspan Seminars became Young Men’s Prep’s Miami-Dade Partner in the fall of the 2008 school year and has provided workshops for students and parents. Its president, Priscilla Dames Blake, is the Vice-Chairperson of the Black Affairs Advisory Board.
Wingspan Seminars provides training that strengthens relationships through understanding diversity. It also provides internships and community service for high school students. To find out more go to, http://www.wingspanseminars.com or call 305-829-7304
