Working as a writer on the hit CBS show "The Mentalist" has its perks - like an inside view into the ancient culture that inspired its mix of murder, mayhem, and mentalism.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Burbank, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) May 18, 2011 -- from LA Times "Q and A with Mentalist Writer":

"Now that fans are catching on to the secret meanings within the show, I think it's great. With multiple characters representing Julius Caesar, Lucius, and Julia, the viewer is still kept guessing. And it deepens our understanding of our secret cultural history."

"The references to William Blake try to bring people back to the spirit of 'Antient' civilizations as they pushed for a way of life that was better organized. Slavery, for example, was seen as a mathematical choice to speed up the process. If any modern human is given the choice between weeding their own garden with zero entertainment in the evening and an endless series of chores, or life in a penthouse suite with all the modern amenities and sports games and films, they are going to choose the luxuries that come with certain amounts of semi-slavery providing it. As a culture, we have tried to find a balance. And much of the modern peacefulness comes directly from Lucius Caesar suffering through his failure as Jesus, then his grief over the murder of his brother and mother, firing him up to resort to killing his father as a way to free the empire. Of course, Octavius was the other side of the coin, someone who had been a sheltered teenager and was willing to lie and cheat and betray others to their death, just to win the hot car and a palace on the lake."

While the aristocratic or "Atlantean" view of popular culture as a playground for endless variations on their victorious past may put-off some fans who live in a more literal world, the writer suggests they give in to their desire to witness and participate in the darker aspects of human nature, which, as instinctual predators, is our animal reality.

"Similar to Charles Manson having a family of helpers to commit planned ritualistic murders, in some cases acting out the killing of the pregnant daughter of Caesar in real life, it isn't a lie to say Patrick Jane comes face-to-face with Red John for the first time, or that he's having a showdown with the person who killed his wife and child. Brett Partridge, the forensics guy, had a mask between his face and Jane's the last time they met. And Red John is more of a religion or organization than a single person. Yet, at the origin of every group is its founder. Jane will eventually discover that the founder was his father. But it's true that Caesar himself didn't kill either his son or his daughter. He was an aging epileptic who was muscularly weak. He had Octavius perform the c-section which killed his daughter, and his guards attacked his son Gaius, leading to his nearly fatal shoulder injury."

"Brett Partridge was a notable character in the very first episode. He showed a wide range of emotions when Patrick Jane implied it was a sloppy copy of Red John's work, which Brett, from behind a mask at the end of the second season, retorted to with his comment about disliking amateur copycats."

The network of Red John helpers is large because, for people born into the aristocratic culture, there's a real hunger to participate in ancient traditions. "And killing is tradition number one. Keeping the world in an order which suits the lifestyle of its leaders is number two. I realize that it comes as a shock to honest Christians that humans kill for sport, but they might want to ask themselves why they go to churches which hang a near-dead body front and center, and then ask you to eat a bite of his flesh and drink some of his blood."

"In the Octavius-like Brett Partridge, Patrick Jane faces someone he is annoyed by, who killed his wife and child by choice as an initiation into a cult-like group, and who is also an insider with the police force. And once you have insiders, and a culture of corruption, along with the covert policing of aristocrats who have been slowly put undercover as average, unaware citizens, or non-aristocratic millionaires, you have a need to kill to control behavior, kill to transfer funds, kill to silence whistle-blowers. Is it coincidence that this culture enjoys killing? Or did they choose to take the easy way out, controlling others SO that they'd get what they wanted along with an excuse to kill anyone who protested?"

"The finale storyline covers all three angles: that aristocrats are first and foremost unlikable, unpleasant people because the culture's strict adherence to breeding principles have kept antisocial qualities from being weeded out and actually rewards them; second, that aristocrats developed all modern entities, such as cities, law, police, and entertainment as a direct result of their own inability to live a natural life with social bonds, hard work, family life, and the simple pleasures of a low-key spiritual practice, and so they developed modern entities to include corruption rather than to prevent it; and third, we all want to be treated well and have a happy life, but it's extremely tempting to go for the joy ride or kill for the fun of it."
