U.S. Senate Republican candidate Zach Poskevich voices his concern over the NewSTART (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) that was supported by Senator Bob Corker (R- TN). The NewSTART Treaty, ratified in February 2011, outlines nuclear arms reductions between America and Russia and is scheduled to remain in effect until 2021.
Zach said of the treaty, “US Senators have an obligation to look after and protect the interest of America - Period. What they did weakened the US and assaulted the Constitution.”
Critics of the treaty say that it may be unconstitutional as it created a Bilateral Consultative Commission that affects the treaty’s terms and allows changes without giving the Senate its constitutionally outlined process. Additional controversy lies with the fact that NewSTART restricts our capability to deploy an Eastern Europe Defense System. Jim DeMint (R-SC) said it best when he said “...the so-called third site for missile defense won't protect Europe from a strike launched in Iran. But this ignores the fact that Iran is not the only place from which a ballistic missile could hit Europe -- and in that case, if our missile defenses will not protect Europe, what will?”
Zach said, “Republican Senators voted to ratify this treaty as a way to look “bi-partisan” with the President and his party. My question to American citizens and Tennessee residents is this: Do you feel safer when your elected officials are more concerned about how they look rather than ensuring they are upholding their oath of office; defending our personal liberty? Electing a US Senator has lasting implications. The NewSTART treaty does not expire until 2021.”
The additional treaties that are being discussed within the UN make it vital to our National Security and personal liberty that Tennesseans have a Senator who is more interested in defending the American legacy rather than building a personal legacy.
