Metro Health Hospital Foundation Announces Winter Grants

Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 13, 2012 -- Wyoming, Michigan, January 12, 2012 – The Metro Health Hospital Foundation has approved more than $37,000 in grants to support programs and services provided by the Hospital.

Six grants ranging from $328 to more than $10,000 will support a wide variety of initiatives, through new equipment, education opportunities and technology.

The 2011 winter grants include:

• More than $5,500 for the purchase of four portable defibrillators to bridge the gap between the time necessary for advanced medical care to reach a person suffering from sudden cardiac arrest at community or sporting events. The issue became a community touch point after Fennville High School basketball star Wes Leonard collapsed and died from sudden cardiac arrest after making a game-winning shot in December 2010.
• Eight thousand dollars to fund screening and diagnostic services for breast cancer and cervical cancer prevention for women who are under insured or noninsured. The funding will serve 80 additional patients.
