FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 25, 2012 -- Wyoming, Michigan, January 24, 2012 – Metro Health Hospital has received Primary Stroke Certification from the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program.

Metro Health earned the certification after HFAP, which is an independent, nationally recognized accreditation authority, conducted an extensive review of the hospital’s stroke program. Metro Health has been recognized with national awards for its success at treating strokes, ensuring patients have the best care from the emergency room through rehabilitation. The hospital also holds community education events each year.

The HFAP stroke certification program has based its standards on evidence from the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Heart/Stroke Association. These standards are requirements to provide hospitals with the tools for education and support regarding stroke prevention, care and recovery within their communities.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of adult disability. An American Stroke Association study shows that baby boomers may know the signs and symptoms of stroke, but don’t see stroke as a major health risk. The risk for strokes increase at the age of 55. Controllable risk factors include smoking, high cholesterol, blood pressure and obesity.
