South Florida is considered one of the “most-improved” real estate markets in the nation, following a six month real estate resurgence that included a 2.6 percent increase in housing prices and a 7.3 percent increase in new home permitting (National Association of Home Builders). Add that to the recently released remodeling index reporting a five-year high for the remodeling industry, and you have the setting for a successful 2012 home improvement kick-off in conjunction with the opening of the Miami Home Design and Remodeling Show, This year’s show, selected as a Florida Top 100 Event by BizBash, opens to the public and the trade March 23-26 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

“We expect residential remodeling to experience continued growth as more South Florida homeowners make improvements, updates and renovations based on a long-term vision of living in their home,” said Sharon Berube, spokesperson for the Home Design and Remodeling Show. “Homeowners want their homes to match their lifestyle, and are willing to forego traditional use of spaces to accommodate the way they actually “live” in the space now.” That includes remodeling formal living rooms into home offices or home theaters, transforming guest bedrooms into workout rooms and expanding entertainment areas to include the versatile additions of outdoor kitchens and conversation pits. Professional remodeling experts at the show can offer ways to maximize utility of living spaces in and around a home to meet current and future needs.

Homeowners looking for ideas will find thousands among the 1,000 displays featured in this nationally recognized event. In addition to a wide range of products on display, the show also offers consumers the opportunity to talk one-on-one with professionals about specific home improvement projects, compare product quality and pricing in one convenient setting, and gather thousands of ideas. Special show pricing offered throughout the four day event, is an added incentive to investigate what is available.

SPECIAL TO THIS YEAR’S SHOW

John Gidding of HGTV’s Designed to Sell and Curb Appeal: The Block is the featured celebrity speaker on the Home Improvement Stage. In his complimentary seminars, offered Saturday and Sunday, John will discuss the various challenges associated with updating facades and landscapes, and invite audience interaction. Informative seminars will also be presented throughout the weekend by interior design and home improvement experts. “Design for the Stars” Designer Showcase will present original designer room settings that celebrate the influences of international design.

Back by popular demand is the Culinary Experience Cooking Stage, featuring Chef Paulette and a number of South Florida guest chefs. Chef Paulette will be accompanied by children from the audience to demonstrate how delicious and nutritious SUPER FOODS FOR SUPER KIDS can be. South Florida guest chefs will prepare a variety of healthy dishes, sharing recipes and samples throughout the weekend.
