DETROIT, M.I. – Michigan Buick dealers are preparing for a recall of 13780 vehicles that may have a problem with certain cables in the electrical center. Only two brands of General Motors are affected, and the vehicles are as follows:
• Buick Lucerne 2010-2011
• Cadillac DTS 2010-2011
Also, only the vehicles equipped with a V8 engine may be affected by this issue. The problem lies in the possibility of the starter or alternator cable coming into contact with the power steering return line. If the contact between these cables continues to happen, the return cable could wear through the line which could cause a power steering fluid leak. The consequences of this leak are possibly a loss of power steering while the driver was in motion, and/or the leak could fall onto hot engine parts, which could cause an engine compartment fire.
General Motors wants to make sure all vehicles that may be having this problem are able to visit any dealership to have the cables secured or even rerouted to make sure there is no contact between the cables. For this reason, Michigan Buick dealers and all others across the country will be doing everything to make it as convenient as possible for owners.
One way GM is minimizing customers inconvenience is through its Courtesy Transportation program. Owners who are covered by a New Vehicle Limited Warranty will be eligible for courtesy transportation which includes a shuttle service or some other form of transportation, which will be provided at no charge to the customer.
Michigan Buick dealers are ready for the safety recall to begin on or before November 19, 2010. If any owners have questions, they can contact Buick at 866-608-8080, Cadillac at 866-982-2339, or they can visit the owner center at www.gmownercenter.com.
Also Buick and Cadillac owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go online to www.safercar.gov.
