Michigan mentor and author launches guidebook empowering women to mentor girls

(Free-Press-Release.com) December 20, 2011 -- Berkley, Mich. resident and author Paula Dirkes is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children. The youth advocate and volunteer is encouraging others to become role models through mentoring. On Jan. 10, 2012, during the National Mentoring Month observance, Dirkes will launch her newest book on the subject Mentor Me! The Complete Guide For Women Who Want to Mentor Girls .

Mentor Me! is a comprehensive, step-by-step guidebook for women told from Dirkes’s perspective covering her 10-year, one-on-one mentoring relationship with mentee Chelsea, who contributed to the book.

In addition to unforgettable stories and personal insights from Dirkes and her mentee, a compelling case is made for mentoring as a solution for reducing and/or eliminating teen pregnancy, abortions, truancy and the skyrocketing school dropout rate.

“Each chapter in Mentor Me! is devoted to the common – yet legitimate – concerns that a woman may have as she considers inviting a girl she does not know into her life and meeting her where she is with support, not judgment,” Dirkes said. “The underlying message is that caring, proactive women who mentor a girl can create a space for good life decisions, healthy relationships and transform both of their lives forever.”

In addition to the online book launch, Dirkes will host a Mentoring Appreciation Event & Book Launch Party , Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Renaissance Unity Church, 11200 E. Eleven Mile Rd. in Warren, Mich.

The free event, co-sponsored by Empowered Flower Girl LLC, includes networking, mentor/mentee success stories, giveaways, light refreshments, mentoring resources and a book signing for Dirkes’ Mentor Me!
