Microsoft Windows Users and iYogi Reveal 36 % Plan to Upgrade to Windows 7 on Existing PCs, 68 percent are not entirely comfortable that they will be able to easily move their favorite application

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 6, 2009 -- User Poll Shows That 43 Percent Will Need Extra Technical Support as They Move to New OS

New York, NY, October 5, 2009: iYogi, the on-demand tech services company with a unique global delivery model, announced today that an encouraging 36 percent of consumers expect to upgrade to Windows 7 on their existing PC. However, 68 percent are not entirely comfortable that they will be able to easily move their favorite applications over to the new Windows 7 platform. And nearly half (43 percent) expect to need more tech support help in order to move their favorite applications over to the Windows 7 environment.

These facts are among the results of a poll of more than 500 consumers regarding adoption and application plans and predictions around the upcoming launch of the new Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.

Upgrade plans look healthy, with 28 percent expecting to move to Windows 7 this year alone. When asked what one word describes how they feel about the upcoming launch, 31 percent said “excited”.

“We are very encouraged by the growing anticipation of the Windows 7 operating system, and from what we’ve seen it represents a significant improvement in the user interface and manageability for users,” said Vishal Dhar, President of Marketing & Co-founder of iYogi. “However, our surveys show that more than 40 percent -- potentially tens of millions of people -- will require additional [computer support assistance of some kind this year.”

Additional survey findings reveal:

• 61 percent think they will upgrade to Windows 7 at some point
• 48 percent will make the move by the end of 2010
• 35 percent think that difficulties porting their favorite applications over to Windows 7 will discourage them from moving to the new operating system
• More current Windows Vista users (35 percent) are excited about the upcoming Windows launch than Windows XP users (29 percent)
