(Free-Press-Release.com) August 11, 2010 -- Cheshire, CT – Tuesday, August 10, 2010 clinched something special for Milford Indoor Tennis: The team that started the season by winning only one game in a contest against its sister tennis club Shippan Racquet Club, ended up playing the Shippan Timber Wolves, Norwalk Stars, and New Haven in Cheshire today, and won the state championship.

Milford ended up in first place with 45 points, followed by Shippan with 35 points, and Norwalk with 26 points.

The round-robin format meant that each team played 3 total matches and the winner was determined by the team with the most number of games won. The match of the tournament for Milford was Sam Levine's comeback victory over Shippan. Being down 3-1, Levine won 4-3, winning the tiebreak 5-0. His brother, Zak, was undefeated for the day as was Sam. Alex DeMontbel and Jacqueline Vagnone teamed up again for mixed doubles, and posted a 2-1 record for the day.

“I am so proud of Milford's effort and sportsmanship," stated Megin McManus Levine , who stood in as the team coach for the day. "We've worked hard all year for this moment," Megin stated. Megin is not only one of the coaches but also the mother of two of the top players, Zak and Sam.

"Win or lose, I told the players that if they each gave their best effort, in my mind, we would be successful," stated an elated Angelo A. Rossetti, Milford Match Point's Head Coach and inspirational leader.

Right now Milford stands alone a top the best in the state of Connecticut for Quickstart 10 & under.

"We played really well. It was probably one of the best tennis things I've ever done. We all dunked our heads in freezing ice water at the end because it was so hot," exclaimed 9-year-old Jacqueline Vagnone.

Milford prides itself on sportsmanship all year, earning the Sportsmanship Award this winter. In Tuesday’s game they lent New Haven a player so New Haven wouldn’t have to be disqualified. In the Southern CT State Championships this winter they also lent a player to Trumbull. "You couldn't ask for anything more than displaying good sportsmanship, and coming out on top," stated Rossetti.

In related news, on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, the Milford Mavericks, the 18 and under advanced team playing out of Milford Indoor Tennis, clinched runner up in the state tournament, second to Old Saybrook.

Now Angelo A. Rossetti is the new director of tennis at Weston Racquet Club in Weston, CT and hopes to bring with him the same amount of success as he has had at Milford.
