MILILANI COMMUNITY WELCOMES ARRIVAL OF WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY – HAWAII TO NEW LOCATION
MILILANI, HAWAII – Perfect weather with a diverse program featuring music, traditional customs, prospective students and local dignitaries all contributed to the success of Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Hawaii’s Open House held on Saturday, February 4 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. according to WBU Executive Director and Campus Dean, David Howle.
After entertainment presented by local musician Keale and by the Hula Halau O Hokulani, State Senator Michelle Kidani presented a special proclamation from the State Senate welcoming Wayland to its new location in Mililani. Featured guest and WBU graduate Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha spoke about the values and perspectives of the university which had strongly affected his life and career choices. Even though teaching the occasional class for another institution, Kealoha confessed that he always recommends Wayland to police personnel who ask his advice.
After a blessing by Dr. Veryl Henderson, Executive Director of the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention, the dignitaries loosened the ribbons holding a maile lei across the front doors, and the staff opened the facilities for visitors to explore and enjoy pupus provided by Poke Stop. Each classroom featured a different focus and Wayland faculty, staff, and students were on hand to answer visitors’ questions.
“The Open House was a time of delightful discovery for our visitors as well as for the dignitaries,” said Howle. “We appreciate all the efforts so many people made so that this event would be such a success. Laughter, earnest conversations, and many compliments suggest that everyone was having a great time in this relaxed, casual atmosphere.”
WBU – Hawai’i was one of the first satellite schools to open outside of their main campus in Plainview, Texas, providing working adults the flexibility and resources to obtain Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Their diverse curriculum includes degrees and majors in Business Administration, Management, Education, Christian Ministry and Public Administration with various locations on the island.
WBU-Hawai’i was recently acknowledged as one of the Best Places to Work in Hawaii by Hawaii Business Magazine, a finalist as one of Hawaii’s Healthiest Employers and also noted as having the most affordable tuition for graduate degrees according to Pacific Business News. They have also been named as a Military Friendly School according to G.I. Jobs, Military Times EDGE magazine and Military Advanced Education and recently acknowledged by Military Times Magazine as one of the top schools in the country for troops using tuition assistance.
The school recently moved from their previous site in Aiea to the new campus location at 95-1091 Ainamakua Drive, Mililani, HI 96789 and started their fall classes in October.
