MILILANI CUB SCOUT PACK TO HONOR VETERANS IN FIRST FLAG CEREMONY AT WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERISTY – HAWAII
MILILANI, Hawaii – The local Cub Scouts of Pack 864 will not only be recognizing the men and women
who have served in the military but also will help “christen” the new location of Wayland Baptist University
(WBU) - Hawaii with a special outdoor flag ceremony to be held at the campus on Veterans Day, Friday,
November 11from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. According to cub scout pack spokeswoman Erin Gallogly, the troop
has normally participated in the Wahiawa Veterans Day Parade but due to cancellation, conducting the
ceremony at Wayland will still help to honor the veterans and help them fulfill their Webelos requirements.
During the two-hour program, the boys will be conducting the opening ceremony to honor and raise the flag on one of the designated flagpoles at the campus and then conclude with a special flag folding ceremony. Several of the Scouts’ parents, current military members and veterans from the US Army, Navy and Department of Defense civilians will also be on hand to acknowledge appreciation of the troops’ and the university’s support.
According to WBU executive director and campus dean, Dr. David Howle, this presents an opportunity to build relationships within the community. “This is a terrific start of letting the public know that we are here to support the local neighborhoods and different associations within Mililani,” said Howle. “We believe in the spirit of ohana and want to be as involved as much as we can.”
WBU – Hawaii was one of the first satellite schools to open outside of their main campus in Plainview, Texas, providing working adults the flexibility and resources to obtain Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Their diverse curriculum includes degrees and majors in Business
Den 7, pack 864 during their 9/11 Commemorative Administration, Management, Education, Christian
Hike at Diamond Head State Monument Ministry and Public Administration with various locations
on the island.
WBU-Hawaii was recently acknowledged this year as one of the Best Places to Work in Hawaii by Hawaii Business Magazine, a finalist as one of Hawaii’s Healthiest Employers, and also been noted as having the most affordable tuition for graduate degrees according to Pacific Business News. They have also been named as a Military Friendly School according to G.I. Jobs, Military Times EDGE magazine and Military Advanced Education and recently acknowledged by Military Times Magazine as one of the top schools in the country for troops using tuition assistance.
The school recently moved from their previous site in Aiea to the new campus location at 95-1091 Ainamakua Drive, Mililani, HI 96789 and started their fall classes in October.
