Military Charity Canadian Hero Fund Releases '11 for 11' Campaign Commercial Featuring Canadian Rock Band The Trews Song 'Highway of Heroes' and actor / director Paul Gross

(Free-Press-Release.com) November 2, 2010 -- The Canadian Hero Fund has launched a new fundraising commercial featuring The Trews’ song ‘Highway of Heroes’ and the voice of Canadian actor/producer Paul Gross.

The ad is for a new fundraising campaign called “11 for 11” and asks Canadians to visit 11for11.ca to donate $11 towards scholarships for the children of fallen Canadian soldiers.

The 11 for 11 campaign launches today and runs until Remembrance Day. A corporate component encourages businesses to pledge $11 or 11% per sale over a discretionary period during the eleven day campaign. There is also a program for elementary and secondary schools, involving the ‘Highway of Heroes’ song: “We were approached by several schools who wanted to use the song in their Remembrance Day ceremonies,” said Tim Peters, President of the Fund. “The song adds a new relevance for today’s school children.”
The Canadian Hero Fund, a student-based charity, has been raising funds for almost a year, and allocated its first bursary this fall worth $10,000. The recipient, Matthew Mellish, attends the University of New Brunswick, and is the son of Warrant Officer Frank Mellish who was killed in Afghanistan in 2006.

“11 for 11” is a campaign for Canadians to go above and beyond this November. Over 150 soldiers have given their lives over the last 8 years, many leaving families and very young children behind. This November Canadians will remember the fallen, but they can also remember the children who lost their heroes. From November 1st to 11th we are asking the public to donate $11 to the Canadian Hero Fund scholarship program. These scholarships ensure that the children of our fallen heroes are able to follow their dreams, and that the dreams of those soldiers who wanted more for future generations are not forgotten.

ABOUT CANADIAN HERO FUND:
Canadian Hero Fund was founded in 2009 by students and recent graduates at the University of Toronto who were deeply affected by the increasing number of Canadian casualties in Afghanistan and the young families they left behind. As university students, the founders understood the benefits of post-secondary education and felt the best way they could help these families was to provide the same opportunities to the dependents of fallen Canadian soldiers.
