MINISTRY OF CULTURE HONOURS WINNERS OF SHORT STORY COMPETITION Competition helps produce a new generation of writers: Al Sabri

(Free-Press-Release.com) December 29, 2010 -- DUBAI, (December 22, 2010) - The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development (MCYCD), honoured the winners of the Best Short Story competitions for 2010.
The Short Story competition was held in two categories: for children between the ages of 7 and 9 and for young people between the ages of 10 and 15 years.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Afra Al Sabri, Director of Institutional Services and Support and a number of senior MCYCD officials and members of the adjudication committee at the Ministry’s headquarters in Dubai. "The purpose of these competitions is to help develop a new generation of writers who will contribute to cultural and scientific life in the UAE,” said Al Sabri.
The competition criteria required that submitted stories should be written in classical Arabic and highlight the ancient and modern environments of the Emirates. The stories should also have reflected the cultural and moral values of Emirati society.
The prize winners for Best Short Story for the ages 7 to 9 were: 1. Leila Youssef Mohammed; 2. Fatima Sultan Mazrouei and 3. Ahmed Rab Al Khchen. Winners for Best Short Story – 10-15 years were: 1. Aisha Saeed Zaabi; 2. Najeebeh Mohammed Rifai and 3. Manal Abdullah Ahmad.
