Minnesota hypnotist creates new resource for spouses of depression

(Free-Press-Release.com) November 20, 2009 -- Many people who are married to depressed individuals are not sure where to turn for help in dealing with the emotional issues they face on a daily basis. That's where the Spouses of Depression MeetUp group comes in.

The newly formed group will provide a safe and confidential place for spouses of depressed people to meet, share their stories, swap and learn strategies and resources for coping and improving their situation. The group's founder, Cindy Locher, is a certified clinical hypnotist, and while this group is not about hypnosis, some of the relaxation methods employed in her clinic, ChangeWorks Hypnosis, will be employed in group meetings.

"Many men and women with depressed spouses don't have a resources like this," said Ms. Locher. "If you look on the internet and your community for resources as a depressed person yourself, you will find many. But for the spouse, resources are few and far between. This is a challenging role and there are strategies to make it better, and one of those is simply being able to share and be heard, and to hear others with similar stories. It's important to understand that you are not alone, and it's important not to isolate yourself."

The group can be found on the web by searching in MeetUp.com for "Spouses of Depression." The group will have its first meeting in January 2010, in the southern part of the Twin Cities Metro.
