Misinformed by Godaddy.com about backordering over and over and over....

June 10, 2010

As a good customer of godaddy.com, I was very disappointed when I was misinformed multiple times by godaddy.com. In the end, our $18.95 backorder turned into a $600 auction.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 10, 2010 -- A few weeks ago, I learned that a vitamin related .com was set to expire so I called godaddy.com and asked about their backorder service. I was informed by the representative that if I backordered the domain, I would get the domain when it fully expired, unless multiple people backordered it. The rep went on to tell me that if multiple people back ordered it, then the domain would go to an auction between those who backordered it. Satisfied with the explanation, I backordered the domain.

About a week and a half ago, our "backordered" domain had expired but I was horrified to learn that not only was the domain not given to us but that it went to a PUBLIC auction instead of the private auction I was told would happen between those who backordered it. The domain was previously being hosted by godaddy.com so I could not believe my eyes.

I called godaddy and was told not only by a customer service rep but also a manager that they both had the same understanding of how the domain process works. It was a holiday so the manager said he would get with the department that sent it to auction to find out why they had made this mistake and call me back the next day.

Well..... The manger left a message on my cell phone stating that he and all the other people who had all given me the same explanation were wrong... He told me all domains go to auction after expiring and that it was a good coaching opportunity. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the domain that I supposedly backordered, was now set to be auctioned off in a PUBLIC auction and that I had been misinformed by 3 godaddy.com reps including a manager.

Helpless, I was forced to play along with their greedy game. We got the domain today but had to bid $600.00 to win it, which was a far cry from the $18.95 backorder... I also think that I was the only one to back order the domain as the $10 bid (part of the backorder service) automatically put in for me was the highest for days. Upset I called godaddy and spoke to a manager to see if they cared enough to do something about their mistake. The manager offered 2 years of free hosting... about $22... Not satisfied, I asked to speak to someone in a more senior position.

Bingo, he gave me the email and phone number to the president’s office. Now I could explain their mistake to them and I would surely get at least a $100 credit to my account for their mistake, right? WRONG, I was treated very rudely by Mandy (who by the way also was not sure of how the backordering process works and told me herself that it should have gone to a private auction) who said things like "you should have read the terms and conditions" (even though she knows I ordered on the phone), "you were offered 2 free years of hosting, we wouldn't have even given you that in this office" and in her sarcastic and rude attitude made it very clear that I would not be compensated in any way for the false information I was given. I even tried calling a different rep at the "president’s office" who actually showed some concern but said beyond looking into the issue, there was nothing else he was going to do because he was not going to go against his co-workers decision...

Well.... as a test, after all of this, I called a godaddy rep and asked how the "backorder" service works and yet again was given the same explanation. The rep told me that if the domain I backordered expired, it would go to me, unless the domain was backordered by multiple people. If it was backordered by multiple people, it would be auctioned between those who backordered it... WOW, still giving out the same false info to make sales...
