Mississippi, Colorado Nation's Deadliest Debris-caused Vehicle Accident States
Mississippi and Colorado are among the five deadliest states for debris/litter –caused vehicle accidents per total number of registered vehicles and population size.

Latest figures derived from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show at least 19 and 16 persons in Mississippi and Colorado, respectively, were killed each year in motor vehicle collisions with non-fixed objects--including debris, dumped litter, animals and their carcasses--according to Steve Spacek, Washington, DC-based author of The American State Litter Scorecard.
The other three states deemed worst for the chance a motorist and or a passenger would be killed by collision debris include Montana, Kansas and Louisiana.
Littering remains a danger to public health, safety and welfare throughout the United States, Spacek said.
At the opposite end, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Alaska and New Hampshire were the top five states with the smallest chance a person would die from motor vehicle collisions with non-fixed objects
The ten states with the highest total deaths per year from debris/litter –caused vehicle accidents are California, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Georgia and North Carolina.
