Mitt Romney has won a Republican straw poll of the 1,600 member American Business Brokers Association.
Romney was the choice of 48% of members who voted in the online poll conducted by the association. Newt Gingrich placed second in the polling with 28% of the vote. Ron Paul drew the support of 17% of the members with Perry at 4% and Bachmann at 1%.
The American Business Brokers Association is a professional membership organization of business brokers, intermediaries and appraisers. Business brokers assist buyers and sellers of privately held businesses in the valuation and transfer of ownership interests.
"I think the results are significant," said William Bruce, President of the American Business Brokers Association, "because our membership is probably more plugged into the opinions and needs of the owners of small to medium sized businesses than any other group in America."
The poll was conducted online for 10 days ending December 30.
