Saturday 10th December 2011 MJ Worldwide get the day to travel down to London to go and see the X Factor final which was a reward from Talk Talk. It’s traditionally the future of the X Factor winner which is called into question. But this year, it seems the future of The X Factor itself has been left in serious doubt after this weekend’s final had its lowest viewing figures since 2006 when just 10.4m people tuned into the Saturday night leg of the final. The Managing Director of MJ Worldwide who attended the final that Saturday night comments saying, ‘the night was very entertaining, even though I do think the show is now missing an essential ingredient - Mr Simon Cowell.’
Saturday night’s first part of ITV1’s X Factor final averaged 10.6m viewers, down 3.45 million on 2010, in which 14.05m tuned in to watch contestant Cher Lloyd get the boot. Conversely, BBC dancing competition, Strictly Come Dancing, which sees celebrities paired with professional dancers, attracted the slightly higher figure of 10.9 million viewers during its Saturday night 6.30pm slot. But this was just Strictly’s semi-final. This year, The X Factor has given the impression that it may not now be far away from becoming an ex-show. MJ worldwide a new outsource sales and marketing company based in Manchester has had a very successful year and will continue this momentum into 2012. The Managing Director of MJ Worldwide goes further to say, ‘it is inevitable in business that there will be ups and downs, hopefully X Factor will regain their top spot next year in ratings. Here at MJ Worldwide we have made every effort to ensure a kick start into 2012, our essential ingredient is having clear set goals and an unbreakable work ethic.’
The pre-Christmas ‘Strictly vs X Factor’ ratings war has routinely been won by the ITV1 singing show. But going by recent reports, this year’s final of Strictly Come Dancing is predicted to break viewing records.
Despite locating to Wembley Arena, Sunday’s X Factor final peaked at 15.3 million viewers, a disappointing number given this location, live performances by Leona Lewis, JLS and One Direction, and of course last year’s viewing figures which peaked at more than 19 million people, who watched as former decorator Cardle beat Cher Lloyd, One Direction and Rebecca Ferguson to win. ‘It is vital that the show keeps the views hooked by changing things up. Mixing up judges, the shows talent and celebrity performances to keep the audience interested and glued to the screen will mean higher ratings. It will be interesting to see if X Factor gives themselves a little revamp for next year’s show to maintain the views interest,’ continues the Managing Director of MJ Worldwide.
MJ Worldwide understand that as a business it’s important to keep up with what your customers are looking for and to offer a better experience than your competitors. The question is who will win the rating war next year - Strictly or X Factor?
