Mobile Learning Now a Reality for Ludlow Junior School

Founded in 1899, Ludlow Jr. School is now recognized as one of the top schools in Southampton, and has been recognized for their achievements in reaching a standard of maturity in their use of technology. As the largest five-form entry school in England containing 550 students, they continue to hold the Primary Quality Mark, demonstrating good practice in literacy and numeracy teaching. “We were finding we weren’t able to cope with the curriculum demand that we had with our traditional static IT suites - with a large pupil body and only two static rooms, it was very difficult to time table,” said Simon Watkins, Headteacher at the Ludlow Jr. School. “We made the decision to go wireless and to deploy, initially, 120 laptops across the school, with a view to gradually become a 1:1. Not only will Xirrus enable us to work flexibly in the classrooms, but also across our campus. Now we can make our technology mobile and take on learning where we want it, as opposed to having learning that has to take place in two static suites.”
