Mobile phone need wanes
World gross revenue of mobile phones dipped during the previous three months, because of economic dubiousness and the held up launching of fresh mobile technology, a report has stated.
Worldwide gross sales from 103 million has dived down to 94.4 million traded mobile phones starting from July to September of the year 2009 according to market research group Gartner Dataquest.
This considerably shows an abrupt drop in demand for Europe said Gartner.
This is the 1st time that the primary European marketplace has shown any signs of exhausting from one three-month period to the next.
'New' descent
"That is quite unprecedented," Ben Wood, European telecoms research director at Gartner, assured BBC News Online.
Seemingly the delayed presentation of new mobile technologies has caused a great amount of customers to hold over purchasing new mobile phones according to Mr. Wood.
Another element that can be ascribed to the fall in mobile phone sales is the increase in "prepay" mobile phone costs.
"Subsidies on pre-paid mobile phones have been phased out, and a lot of individuals are putting off buys until the fresh technology becomes purchasable," said Mr Wood.
New marketplace realism
"A feeling of realism is receding back to the European marketplace. The significant growth we have witnessed in past years couldn't be maintained perpetually."
He likewise added up that development opportunities in the future may lie in other Asian countries like China where mobile phone penetration is low.
Of the two main mobile phone makers, Motorola and Samsung are the only ones that sold more units between the months of July and September 2008, way more that the same period in 2009, according to Gartner's latest survey.
The world's largest mobile phone maker Nokia sold slightly fewer handsets, but managed to consolidate its position as market leader, boosting its share of world sales by 3.2 percentage points to 33.4%.
Following suit is Motorola's share of the market, climbing to 15.7% from 13.3% in September of last year.
Unfortunately for Sony Ericsson, their market share came down to 8% from 9.7%, but is expected to recover with a range of new devices next year.
