WASHINGTON (Thursday, August 19, 2010) – With the final withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraq and the ending of Operation Iraqi Freedom the Modern Whig Party (www.modernwhig.org) would like to gratefully thank the dedicated service of our men and women in uniform. The Modern Whig Party would also like to thank and salute the families of our men and women in uniform; they truly bear the cost of service to our nation along with those serving.
The Modern Whig Party (MWP) realizes that service ahead of self is what our nation needs to address the issues facing it. The service of our military and their families are the finest example of what it means to take action and make a real difference for the good of America. The Modern Whig Party is committed to be a non fringe, moderate and pragmatic organization that reaches out to all Americans to serve our families, communities, and nation. The Modern Whig Party will strive to reach out and be an organization that veterans and active duty military can work with to bring public service back to the forefront of American government.
The Modern Whig Party (MWP) revival began as a series of political discussions among deployed American service members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. When these men and women returned home, they realized that there is a substantial need for a mainstream, non-fringe political movement that caters to individuals that are not defined by ideology but rather common sense fiscal responsibility, strong national defense and a focus on education/scientific advancement over strict social issues among other items.
Speaking on the end of Operation Iraqi Freedom, national chairperson Andrew Evans had this to say; “Our military men and women are truly an example of perseverance, sacrifice and courage to all Americans. The Modern Whig Party will always be an organization that reaches out to veterans to be an organization that they can be proud to work with to bring public service and common sense to American government. The Modern Whig Party offers its deepest gratitude to those who have served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and our thoughts and prayers for those who were wounded and died in service of America.”
About the Whig Party:
Established in 1833, the Whigs are one of America's oldest mainstream political parties. They were the original party of Abraham Lincoln and four other U.S. Presidents.
Revived by Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, the grassroots movement has quickly attracted tens of thousands of members. They represent moderate voters from all walks of life that cherry-pick between traditional Democratic and Republican ideals in what has been called the Modern Whig Philosophy. This Washington, DC-based national movement values common sense, rational solutions ahead of ideology and partisan bickering.
This includes general principles of fiscal responsibility, strong national defense and educational/scientific advancement.
