Arizona food, dance, arts, games, interviews from long-time Arizona residents as well as a “guess who?” game of students dressed as characters from Arizona history will all be a part of the fun 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 24 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 25 at Montessori International School, 2401 E. Brown Road in Mesa.
Tots from 2 years old to young teenagers from MIS will be sharing their knowledge of the state, as well as acting as hosts to a variety of entertaining western games to help bring Arizona history to life during its centennial year.
“We will have a wide range of displays from cacti artwork created by our toddlers to advanced reports and visual displays on critical Arizona topics such as tourism and water conservation,” said Prabha Nair, language and literary teacher of the upper elementary division. “If taught properly, children love to learn. Through this event our students not only have a better understanding of our state, they can share it in an entertaining way to their neighbors, friends and family.”
MIS is an AMI-certified Montessori school in Mesa. The school currently occupies two campuses located on Gilbert Road and Brown Road, a toddler community next to the Brown Road campus (opened in 2003), and classrooms in Gilbert on Gilbert Road south of Elliot Road.
Hundreds of children have grown and developed through MIS’s programs, and many now contribute as adults in the community.
The MIS teaching staff is led by Therese Kestner, B.A., M.Ed, AMI certified and specializing in learning disabilities. She has taught and directed Montessori schools for the past 40 years.
