More Black Women Dating and Marrying White Men Than Ever - An Examination of The Top Reasons Why Black Women Are Looking for Love Outside Their Race

The high number of educated, accomplished Black women without partners and the reasons Black women are not chosen for marriage will be the focus of the broadcast on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. Pacific. Since the 1990s, increasing numbers of black women have been marrying white men. As marriages between African American women and white men have become more common, it is important to understand why this trend has emerged and how this marriage type differs from the more prevalent African American man, white woman marriage combination. Racial stereotypes which negatively portray Black women as aggressive and physically less attractive than women of other races, along with the high numbers of Black men that date and marry outside of their race will be openly discussed by the panel of esteemed guests.

Cheryl Y. Judice, Ph.D., is the author of Interracial Marriages Between Black Women and White Men , the only scholarly treatise which examines the Black female/White male relationship. Until this book was published, little research was directed towards marriages between African American women and white men with even less attention given to delineating differences in the two black-white marital pairings.

"Black women seeking to get married and have children need to consider all men, not just African American men as potential spouses, especially given the stark reality of far too few eligible African American men available to them. No other group of women in the United States has had to contend with the social, psychological, emotional, and financial consequences of not having nearly enough eligible men from their own racial/ethnic group available as marriage partners as have black women. It is time to consider viable solutions to this devastating societal problem" says Dr. Judice.

Karyn Langhorne Folan is the author of Don't Bring Home A White Boy and other Notions that Keep Black Women From Dating Out , which will be released by Simon and Schuster in February 2010.

Karyn feels that "Black women aren't doing anything "wrong" as far as dating goes... but the math is against us if we're only looking at black men. We outnumber them in some major cities 6:1-- and if you factor in educational and income disparities, some experts say it could be as high as 10:1. That means we have two choices: look beyond race for romantic partners or remain single."

Cicely Johnson is the author of the soon-to-be-released and very controversial book Black Men vs. White Men – The Black Woman's Choice. Cicely feels that there are many Black women seeking options for a family and love.

"More and more Black women are falling for their Mr. Right in the form of blonde hair and blue eyes because Darnell, DaQuan, and Tyrone are not equipped to meet her halfway. And if by chance she meets an eligible Black man who is educated and on her level, chances are he is interested in White women, does not want to commit, or is on the down low" Cicely stated. "We have Black men with multiple 'baby momma's' who are not owning up to their responsibilities. Women want to feel special, not part of a harem!"
