Motorists Still Risking Their Finances Without Breakdown Cover
Thousands of UK motorists dice with huge costs by driving without any cover for breakdowns even during times of low disposable income.

Britons are playing with their finances by driving their vehicles without breakdown cover. Every day thousands of cars break down and with garage repairs and private recovery trucks costing a fortune; not having breakdown cover can be financially crippling for most people.
As job security and unemployment is such a big factor in Britain today, having to afford car repairs and recovery charges is something many people want to avoid. With many breakdown coverage policies charging less than £30 per year, it should be seen as a necessary motoring cost. There are many firms out there but with prices for breakdown cover being cheaper online and using comparison sites makes it easier to see which one best suits you, it's a cost that motorists shouldn't shy away from.
For many motorists, fixing a car by themselves at the side of the road is not an option. With today's modern cars needing to have diagnostic equipment and specialist tools, it's almost impossible for any handy DIY mechanic to effectively fix a car, never mind a novice. This is why there are even more breakdown recovery vehicles on UK roads, as the vans have trained mechanics that have access to a myriad of parts and tools, or can recover the vehicle to the nearest accredited garage, which is all included in the price of the annual fee.
One such comparison site, Roadside.co.uk, checks all of the prices from the best and most reputable providers in order to help the UK public get the best deal. Unlike many of its competitors, users are also able to see the published average response times and roadside fix rates of all featured providers, as well as read informative motoring news and guides to stay updated.
A spokesperson from Roadside.co.uk said, “It's ludicrous that motorists would risk their wallet or purse in today's economic climate by not having breakdown cover. Even a flat battery late at night can be scary, dangerous and expensive for people to deal with. Considering recovery trucks often charge £150 or more for even short distances, it certainly stings the bank account.
“That's why we have developed our website to let Britons know just how cheap it is to get cover from a reputable breakdown provider. Best of all, by buying online the prices are usually far cheaper than if you call them up.”
On average, the cost of a breakdown that isn't covered can range from £200 upwards, whereas breakdown cover for a whole 12 months can be less than £30. With the average tank of fuel normally costing more than annual insurance, many motorists are protecting their finances by investing in breakdown cover.
One recovery truck mechanic said, “The relief I see on people's faces when they've had the unfortunate experience of a breakdown is amazing. No one expects modern or new cars to breakdown but as they are so complicated nowadays, there are more parts that can fail, and we are busier than ever before. I've been doing this for 18 years and with 30 million cars on the road, it doesn't look like it's getting any quieter at work”.
