FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Francisco, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) December 6, 2011 -- Alba Nelly Urbina, of Moxie Metal fame, is taking the holiday spirit to heart. From her sunny studio in Oakland, California, hidden from the masses but smack in the middle of a busy neighborhood, she puts in the kind of hours you might imagine Santa's elves keep. It is work she loves, and she goes the extra mile during the holiday season just so folks have plenty of options for those special people on their lists.

Even if you know where it is, finding her studio can be a great adventure. Tucked behind a tall and ominous looking gate, once inside the property you might think you'd stepped into another world. Trees and gardens and massive boulders make way for a small path that leads right to her door. There you will find her and her assistant hammering, heating, twisting the heavy metals they use to create the Moxie Metal pieces that are fast becoming world wide favorites. Music can barely be heard over the noise of saws and grinders and the various other tools that are used to manipulate the steel. Even on the coldest of days, there is a heat that permeates the entire work space. Kind of like sitting in front of a fire on a cold December day. Cozy comes close. But it doesn't quite match the feeling one gets when visiting Moxie Metal Studios.

At first meeting, you can feel the passion and authenticity of this talented woman. She is someone who has had her share of ups and downs, but takes it all in stride, happy to be able to do the work she so dearly loves. As with many artists, the coffers fill and empty and fill again; but she does not allow those variables to dissuade her. She does what she does because it is her passion. You can actually feel it when you touch the extraordinary pieces she creates. Anyone who has the opportunity to visit with her and watch her work cannot help but be inspired by this truly remarkable artist.

As the holiday season approaches each year, she steps it up into an even higher gear, knowing that demand will be three or four times the norm, often with orders coming in faster than she can produce. It all begins around October, when she orders the steel, iron and copper she'll need to create her works of art. The UPS man is a regular visitor to the studio, sometimes coming twice a day. Out on the courtyard, mounds of metal stores begin to pile up as she plans the massive production that is about to unfold. Donned in her steel-toed boots and leather smock, she fires up the forge and the fun begins.

The atmosphere is as festive as it is busy. She offers a hot mug of cocoa with real whipped cream and tells me to find a spot and get comfortable. I find a large hammock off to the side and settle in to watch the magic happen. Before long, there are pieces lines up in various stages of production, waiting for her assistant to do his part. It is an assembly line of two. And it works beautifully. By the time lunch rolls around, they have managed to finish off enough pieces to take a break and replenish their own energy stores, happy to have had such a productive morning.

It is small wonder that Ms. Urbina is fast becoming one of the most talked-about artists of the Bay Area. Not only is her work original, it is also sensational. In the most literal of terms. No matter how skilled this writer may think she is, there really are no words to describe the Moxie Metal experience. The best I can do is provide the links to her Etsy shop and let you, dear reader, see for yourself.
