Mr.Floyd Plymale the driver of the semi trailer truck hauling 40,000 pounds of scrap aluminum caused the trailer to buckle and break in the middle of Fowler Road.

As HCSD Deputy Otis Chamberlain explained to SurfKY News while on the scene, “At approximately 7am, the driver of the semi-truck—Mr. Floyd Plymale of Belleville, IL—was traveling down Island Ford Road toward Carol Gentry Lane to turn around. After realizing that there wasn’t enough room, he backed down to Fowler Road. As Mr. Plymale was exiting Fowler Road, his right rear tire left the roadway. As he was hauling approximately 40,000 pounds of scrap aluminum, the weight of the trailer added with the shifting of the back right tire caused the trailer to buckle and break in the middle.”

As a result of the accident, a notable gouge approximately 50-60 feet long was present in the asphalt adjacent to the roadway.

While no injuries were sustained during the accident, the clean-up efforts could take anywhere from three hours to all day depending on the method of removal.

At this time, the section of Island Ford Road between Carriage Lane and Fowler Road is blocked and closed to traffic. As mentioned, the closure could last between 3 hours and the remainder of the day. Area residents are asked to avoid the area if possible until clean-up is complete.
