MSG Marketing comments on UK unemployment increasing to 2.62million

UK unemployment soared by 129,000 in three months. Youth unemployment rose above a million the jobless total for 16 to 24-year-olds hit a record of 1.02 million and female unemployment was at its highest for 23 years. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the jobless rate hit 8.3%. The number of people out of work and claiming Jobseeker's Allowance rose by 5,300 to 1.6 million in October. There were slightly fewer redundancies in the three months to September than in the previous three months. But record youth unemployment and the highest overall unemployment level since 1994 speak for themselves. The unemployment rate of 8.3% is the highest since 1996 and the total number of unemployed people the highest since 1994.The number of women out of work increased by 43,000 to 1.09 million, the highest level since February 1988. "These figures show just how much our economy is being affected by the crisis in the eurozone," said Employment Minister Chris Grayling.
