MSU Residence Halls Association brings Dr. Drew Pinsky to campus

Dr. Drew Pinsky will present at the Pasant Theatre in the Wharton Center on November 23 at 7:30 p.m. as part of an MSU RHA program entitled "The Breaking Point."

(Free-Press-Release.com) November 15, 2009 -- The MSU Residence Halls Association (RHA) will host “The Breaking Point ” on November 23 featuring a presentation by Dr. Drew Pinsky at the Wharton Center to raise awareness of mental health issues facing college students.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Pasant Theatre with an interactive presentation by Dr. Drew. Dr. Drew will address topics including stress, anxiety, self-medication and college relationships, and answer the questions of students. After the presentation, Dr. Drew will be available for a meet and greet with students and there will be a drawing for one attendee to win the opportunity for a guest appearance on “Loveline” that evening.

Students will also be able to enjoy free finger foods and free neck and shoulder massages by HandWorks

MSU Residence Halls Association brings Dr. Drew Pinsky to campus

Massage Therapy. The MSU Counseling Center will be hosting interactive sessions with students addressing signs of mental health issues and strategies for staying healthy as a college student.

Dr. Drew hosts the popular radio program “Loveline” and can be seen on numerous shows including “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” “Sober House,” “Sex with Mom and Dad” and more. Dr. Drew is a practicing medical doctor and is board-certified in addiction medicine. He is currently the Service Director of the Chemical Dependency Program/Residential Treatment Center at Las Encinas hospital in Pasadena and continues to run a private practice and is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Keck USC School of Medicine.

According to the 2008 National College

Health Assessment performed by the American College Health Association, more than 41 percent of students reported experiencing more than average stress. Nearly half of students surveyed said they felt overwhelming anxiety in past 12 months.

On-campus residents may obtain free tickets for The Breaking Point in the RHA Office located in G-7 Holden Hall. Off-campus students may purchase tickets for $5 through the Wharton Center box office or online at http://www.whartoncenter.com/boxoffice.
