An unexpected gift on a sponsored golf day leads www.oscarspleasure.com blogger Oscar Foulkes to an interesting observation of golf's "born again" shot, the Mulligan.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 6, 2010 --
Oscar Foulkes was surprised to receive The New Testament and Psalms as a 'goodie bag' gift at a corporate golf day. While religion may help to keep sinners on the straight and narrow, how could a Bible do the same thing for a golf ball?
In a recent post on www.oscarspleasure.com, Foulkes compares golf and organised religion, especially with regard to the coda, or values, that characterise both pursuits. Golfing purists can be quite inflexible in their adherence to the conventions and rules of golf. Many scorn the practice of taking a Mulligan - whereby a dud shot is written off as if it had not happened, and a fresh one is taken. By virtue of the rules of golf Mulligans can only be taken when playing socially. Even under these circumstances die-hards refuse to make use of the opportunity to begin again with a clean slate.
In studying the Bible he received he finds apparent Scriptural sanction for the Mulligan, which may in time lead to a greater number of guiltless opportunities for playing golf.
