MUSHANA CHOSEN BY GLOBAL MALA PROJECT AS ‘2009 PEACE MALA BEADS’

(Free-Press-Release.com) September 16, 2009 -- NEW YORK, September 15, 2009: Mushana’s custom beads have been chosen by the Global Mala Project as the official mala beads for the 2009 Global Mala ‘Yoga for Peace Event’, happening in conjunction with the United Nations’ ‘International Day of Peace’. The ‘2009 Peace Mala Beads’ will be available on September 20th at Global Mala Project events across the country including Los Angeles, Brooklyn and Newark, New Jersey as well as on the web at www.mushana.com.

Mushana was selected because it is a socially conscious organization. The ‘2009 Peace Mala Beads’ offer a double giveback. They not only further the worldwide message of peace but they provide a sustainable life to women in Uganda. Mushana is donating 20% of the ‘2009 Peace Mala Beads’ proceeds to the Global Mala Project from September through the end of the year. Mushana is also donating a portion of each jewelry sale back to Ugandan villagers.

Mushana in Uganda means ‘sun’. Widows and female orphans from the western district of Uganda have experienced abuse, hunger, and disease, yet their spirits shine on. Under one sun, these women connect with the United States by offering their talents. Their handcrafting is not only therapeutic, but it provides a livelihood and financial independence. Each bead is made from recycled paper and other indigenous items. Imported to the U.S., the beads are matched with designers impassioned to convert them into unique fashion pieces.

In each bead, there is unity. Mushana joins with Global Mala Project to support true ‘meditation in action’. There are 108 (# of beads in any mala) ways to harmonize mind and body as fingers roll over every bead. With one singular, meditative motion, a bead has the power to bring the spirit in alignment while transforming a life a world away.
