Composer, Robert J. Bradshaw, has once again redefined the role of contemporary art (classical) music in America. His artistic vision has “reframed the physical manifestation of disability, and transformed it into something extraordinarily and inarguably beautiful." - Catherine Branch (flute soloist)
Ms. Branch’s newest CD, “Music of Difference”, hopes to start conversations about disability in America, as well as increase awareness of the countless ways difference impacts and shapes our lives. A former Thomas J. Watson Fellow, Ms. Branch (who lives with diplegic cerebral palsy) has traveled the world exploring the arts as a vehicle for positive social change.
The first composition on “Music of Difference” is Concerto No. 2 “for Catherine” by Robert J. Bradshaw, for flute, violin and piano. This work is noteworthy in many ways but the most singular is Mr. Bradshaw’s use of rhythm. “Catherine sent me videos of herself walking,” explains Mr. Bradshaw. “Using computer technology, I mapped her movements, translated those movements into rhythms, and then used these rhythmic motives as the foundation of the composition.”
