MY NEW ORGANIZATION, Performing Arts and Literary Society, (P.A.L.S.)

Help us raise awareness to domestic violence as we prepare to take our stage play, "A Change Is Gonna Come", a true-to-life depiction of domestic violence in the church, to the Kennedy Center, in Washington, DC. We have created a nonprofit organization to assist us in delivering a message of hope and restoration entitled, Performing Arts and Literary Society (P.A.L.S.). P.A.L.S.'s is a project of Congressional District Programs, Inc. (www.cdprograms.org) – a registered 501(c)(3) public charity. Our mission is to serve as a catalyst to educate the community, organizations, schools, and churches, utilizing the performing and literary arts as a mechanism to raise awareness of social issues and concerns (such as domestic violence, homelessness, abortion, etc.), which are often difficult to convey through traditional and standardized means. P.A.L.S. is the “tree trunk” with branches reaching out to dedicated and compassionate playwrights, performing artists, promoters, directors, poets, educators, publishers, and authors who are utilizing their gifts to make a “difference” in their communities.

Our Vision:

Bridging the gap in the community by providing messages of hope and restoration via theatrical productions, and by producing and publishing inspirational literature, that will make a change.

Our Two-fold Purpose:

Literary: “Story-telling and journaling your life experiences can be very therapeutic and could potentially ease the stress and depression associated with the cares of this life, not to mention the inspiration and motivation it provides. We all have a story to tell! In the words of Don Miquel Ruiz, “Every human is an artist. And this is the main art that we have: the creation of our story.” P.A.L.S. believe that “expression” relieves “depression”. It is our purpose to motivate and inspire a generation of “modern day griots”, who will journal their thoughts as a means of releasing unprofitable and unproductive actions and reactions, and furthermore, publish “timeless” masterpieces for others to read and learn.

Performing Arts: Performing Arts is the visual expression of parables; stories that people can see, relate, and apply to their daily lives. From a biblical perspective, Jesus used a fundamental principle entitled “parables” to teach his disciples. P.A.L.S. purpose is make disciples (learners) by impacting the lives of others with dramatic interpretation through theatrical productions. The enactment or reenactment of “true-to-life” depictions can “reach out and touch” patrons in comprehensive ways that lecturing and preaching may lack. A visual presentation is an excellent manner to illuminate a more controversial topic or circumstance.
