My Organizing Committee Experience
My Organizing Committee Experience
An account of my experience as a President for the Organizing Committee
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 10, 2010 --
As every other AIESEC’er I too had a dream of one day leading a group of individuals of handling a project all by myself a project that I headed in short a project that I could call my own . Little did I know my wish was going to be answered soon . I distinctly remembered the night of 15th January 2010 1 am IST when my pillow suddenly started vibrating .Wide awake because of this rude interruption I woke up in the most miserable mood ever only to see one of my fellow AIESEC’er calling .Wondering what could he have possibly wanted at this hour my mind was filled with intriguing thoughts. Now I don’t quite remember what made me answer his phone ….. (was it the excitement of knowing what exactly he wanted to say or the thought of his calling repeatedly and disturbing my priceless sleep) , I thankfully answered his call.
I just couldn’t believe what he had just told me . Was it really true ,was it actually happening or was this one the jokes that guys play that I never understand ?? I couldn’t trust him till I saw for myself . I quickly crept up to my laptop to check my email . Yes it was true I finally believed him I indeed was the Organizing Committee President of February Recruitments . OCP, these three alphabets were going to be my identity for the next 45 days . I felt so awesome about myself that I seemed to forget the challenge and responsibility this tag carried with itself fortunately the next few days took care of that .
A few days into the project I realized how challenging this experience was going to be . Handling four individuals who are in the toughest circumstances and ensuring that they deliver nothing but the best was not going to be easy , especially if you’re in the same circumstances as them . But I told myself this is the real test and went on . Days seemed too short for the Charlie’s Angels ( that’s what we called ourselves) we ran around the whole of Delhi like maniacs . From one corner to the other one college to the next we were on a mission . A mission to find the perfect AIESEC’ers .
Convincing people to buy the form and come for the group discussion improved my selling skills tremendously. Arranging for group discussions and interviews improved my organizing abilities. Approaching strangers and talking to them made me more confident . Handling my team gave me priceless leadership qualities. But the most important thing that this project taught me was that anything is possible if you want it to be possible .
Apart from the above this project gave me the 4 bestest friends I could ever ask for, my team members. The sheer joy of carrying out a successful project gave me unparalleled joy . Sheer ecstasy , like I had conquered the world . I became a complete AIESEC’er.
I had a first hand experience of heading a project . Do you want the same ..???
