Children with clefts are taunted and teased mercilessly. In developing countries, many babies born with clefts are killed or abandoned. Their ability to express the simple emotion of a smile is taken from them. I don’t know about you, but when somebody smiles at me, it really brightens my day and gives me the encouragement to face the challenges ahead. It gives me an emotional boost.
