FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 31, 2009 --
The car to hire will depend on the destination and purpose. Is it for leisure, family(Social), holiday, business, haulage or do you simply want to replace your broken down? If you are traveling upcountry a RAV4 will handle most of the roads. However if you are thinking of Northern Kenya, beyond Archers Post, and Rumuruti, get a juggernaut (Land-cruiser not Prado(suv) type but a real one). Make sure you also get some new tyres. However if you are attending business meeting, you can get an impressive salon. If you are taking your pet out on a sunny day or in the beach, you can get a convertible. For haulage, there are small and big trucks including clearing and forwarding companies.
Driving
In Kenya, the rule of the road is keep left. At the round about, people coming from
the right have freedom of way. Nairobi can be a nightmare even for the most experienced driver but if you keep your cool, you will arrive at your destination in piece and peace. Simply said, just give way when need be. The public transport (Matatu) driver can be very courteous and rude at the same time. He will intimidate you to give way but when things are not in his favor, he is the first to give in. A little downpour is likely to make Nairobi a Jam city. My best advice at such times is just to relax in your office and wait for the madness to ebb.
Chauffeur drive:
For those not familiar with the destination, or local languages a driver/ guide is recommended. Your driver is not only meant to show the way but he is also your security in hostile situations. A good example
is in case of breakdown in remote areas for example a park.
Pick up and delivery:
Most of the established car hire companies are open from 08:00 Hrs to 17:00 Hrs. You can pick your car from the offices or get it delivered to your desired destination-hotels, airport etc. Rentals on Friday are considered weekend is some institutions and you are required to deliver it on Monday morning.
One way rental popularly known as rent it here leave it there is available in some institutions. However ask before you commit yourself as pick up charge might be prohibitive.
As a hirer, make sure you check the oil and water levels before setting off everyday. You will be held responsible for damaged gaskets, cylinder ends or any damage due to luck of oil. Check that the lights as yo never know, you might find yourself driving at night. Also check for any dents before you take the car and record them. Check wipers, power windows, side mirrors and any leaks in the engine area. My advice is do not take a car if anything is not functioning properly as it will frustrate you. Make sure the A/C works. In the jams of Nairobi, you are expected to roll up windows as thugs do take advantage to steal from the cars.
