The recently released Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) 2008-09 Occupational Outlook shows the Substance Abuse and Behavioral Disorder Counselors sector is expected to experience a 34% net increase in jobs in the next decade. Occupational Outlook Handbook (2008-09) - http://www.bls.gov/emp/optd/.

“We are currently experiencing rapid growth in our Narconon East US Substance Abuse Facilities with centers filled to capacity and the list of arrivals showing no signs of slowing. While the prescription drug abuse epidemic is a contributing factor to our filled centers and growth, another major influence is the over 75% success rate of the long-term Narconon Program,” says Yvonne Rodgers, Executive Director of Narconon East US.

“To meet the growing demand for alcohol, drug and prescription drug rehabilitation we need many more substance abuse centers and trained counselors in the Narconon East US sector which includes all states east of the Mississippi River, Louisiana, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.” says Rodgers.

According to the 2010 National Survey on Drug Use and Health: Summary of National Findings (http://oas.samhsa.gov/NSDUH/2k10NSDUH/2k10Results.htm, “In 2010, an estimated 22.6 million Americans aged 12 or older were current (past month) illicit drug users, meaning they had used an illicit drug during the month prior to the survey interview. This estimate represents 8.9 percent of the population aged 12 or older. Illicit drugs include marijuana/hashish, cocaine (including crack), heroin, hallucinogens, inhalants, or prescription-type psychotherapeutics used non-medically.”

The survey further reported that "slightly more than half of Americans aged 12 or older reported being current drinkers of alcohol in the 2010 survey (51.8 percent). This translates to an estimated 131.3 million people, which was similar to the 2009 estimate of 130.6 million people (51.9 percent)."
