Deep Impact was the first NASA mission that sent her to meet with Tempel 1 in 2005. Back then, the ship launched a probe on the comet's surface and, at the impact, it formed a crater. Detached from the comet dust and debris were collected by a probe that has arrived back on Earth in 2007.
