Nashville trees display beautiful array of colors after summer’s devastating drought

Weeks of lower temperatures and a few inches of rainfall have allowed the trees and flowers to bloom.

Horticulturist Greg Grant agrees. "Folks here don't realize how blessed we are to be able to grow so many species of flowers," he said.

In a few years, we may be able to come back to where we were before the drought in terms of the number of trees,” he said.

Martinez cautioned Tennessee homeowners not to assume that tree loss due to the drought is over. “Not so. It is still possible for residents to lose their trees especially the younger trees. Their chances of surviving have definitely improved but you still have to watch for diseases and pests,” he added.

He urged immediate removal of dead trees to avoid attracting pests and diseases. “Unless they are removed, dead trees will attract pests and diseases. These pests will attack healthy trees that are nearby. You have bigger tree loss when that happens so it is important that homeowners remove dead trees quickly,” he said.
