National Council of Tourism and Antiquities organizes Archaeological Workshop

(Free-Press-Release.com) November 1, 2010 -- As part of its directive to develop the archaeological tourism sector and increase awareness about the need to preserve the country’s heritage, the National Council of Tourism and Antiquities (NCTA) is organising a workshop entitled "Registering cultural and natural sites on the World Heritage List" starting tomorrow (November 3rd).
The course brings together a group of archaeologists and nature experts from various Arab countries who will explain the procedure behind getting various national monuments and heritage sites listed on the World Heritage list.

Director General of the National Council for Tourism and Antiquities, Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb Al Muhairi, said that the council works to develop the antiquities sector in UAE through a number of development programs and activities throughout the year. The Council will provide local professionals in the tourism industry the required experience and training required to develop the archaeological tourism sector through this and similar programmes.
Bahraini environmental expert, Dr. Saeed Abdullah Al Khuzai will give a lecture entitled: "The World Heritage Agreement: Its origin, objectives, and guidelines", while Shehab Al Shebab from Kuwait will explain the origins, formation, membership and working mechanism of the World Heritage Committee.

Dr. Zaki Aslan, noted archaeologist from the "Ecrom Center", will give a lecture reviewing the duties and functions of the Advisory Centers of the Heritage Scientific Committee. Jordanian archaeologist Abdul Samie Abu Deyah, will throw light on the World Heritage List, preliminary lists and the number of sites listed.
