National Slow Motion Day

Tower Review is sponsoring NATIONAL SLOW MOTION DAY on Feb. 26 in response to the escalating insanity of fast food advertising and the blinding speed of special effects used in movies and trailers. "Some are still trying to outrun the economic explosion of 2008, with the flames rushing at their backs," says editor Jonathan Lowe. "Others have fallen into a pit by television's tripwires, or lies. They are currently in free fall. It's calming, even peaceful to be falling, but the bottom is rushing up to meet us, so we better slow down and reassess our situation. What I propose is that we revert to 'bullet time' as in The Matrix, and think this over. Deploy a parachute against the plunge. After all, Hank Paulson, Bernanke, and others lied to us about the banks on national TV. Now Presidential hopefuls, along with Leon Panetta, say the military shouldn't be cut, rather like Col. Miles Quaritch in AVATAR. These people are all incompetent, and no doubt drink plenty of Red Bull. I say turn off the TV and take a walk, think for yourself, listen to an audiobook like 'Washington Rules' by Andrew Bacevich, who says we must change or else. Eat a slow food meal on that day, instead. Give someone a long, slow hug. If someone is tailgating you, slow down. Life is not a race, and as Einstein once said, 'any fool can make things more complex and violent, it takes a bit of genius and courage to move in the opposite direction.' Time magazine awarded Einstein 'Man of the Century,' but he wouldn't have cared about that. . . he wasn't big on ego, or dying with the most toys. Time, he said, was relative, and also an illusion."
